We are proud to live in this historic town. We want to see it thriving but not overwhelmed by modern development – particularly development that is remorselessly eroding its character and charm.

The planning appeal
The developer asked for its appeal against the Council’s decision to take the form of a Hearing. This means that the issues were discussed at a locally held meeting where the public were able to express their views.
The hearing took place on 19 May 2011 in the Council Chamber of Tonbridge Castle at 10.a.m. Unfortunately, the question of whether to demolish the building or save it was not liberally considered by the Inspectorate but the design of its replacement was very much on the agenda. After a site visit and a consideration of the local conservation area the Inspectorate's decision is expected in about two weeks.
